ABOUT OUR PASTOR & FIRST LADY

On September 20, 1999, Bishop Douglas L. Varner Sr., stepped out on faith” by informing his pastor, Rev. Manuel Smith II of Rising Star Missionary Baptist Church that he was following God’s plan of starting a church ministry. The first meeting was held on September 25th, 1999, at the home of Bishop Douglas L. and Lady Vanessa Varner. This meeting was attended by thirteen friends and family members, who joined through Christian experience and came together to name the church which is now True Light community Church, “A Life Care Center ''. The first worship service was held the following Sunday, October 3, 1999, at the Varner’s residence. The True Light Community Church family held worship services at the J. Craig Smith Community Center during the following weeks. In December 1999, True Light Community Church found a temporary home in a building provided through a “love offering” by Rev. Michael Jennings and The Praise Word Deliverance Church. We were truly blessed as our church family worked together in renovating  the building into a church. During a church business meeting on March 6, 2000, the members of the True Light Community agreed to purchase a building located at 900 North Main Avenue in Sylacauga, Alabama as a permanent home. The True Light Community Church home became incorporated on May 6, 2000. Since then, the church has purchased the home next to the church and the property directly behind the house, which was also a donated blessing to the church. Our Bishop’s vision of starting a daycare ministry has become a reality, opening its doors on May 3, 2004. We have been blessed by this ministry and Minister Stephanie Robinson currently serves as our daycare center director. In 2010 two more properties were purchased. The upper room is the location for our men’s ministry and the Our Glory Barber and Style Shop, both ministries of True Light Community Church which began November of 2010. Due to the continuous growth of our Daycare ministry, we are expanding and opening a second location soon. True Light Community Church is constantly growing and, on the rise, “As Christ Addeth unto The Church” while being blessed each day.
